When
you’re homeless you worry about the next meal, the next night, the
next move. We provide each of our clients – mostly single moms and children – with housing and case managers who act as friends and advocates, standing by families every step of the way as they build self-sufficiency and move into permanent homes. The Homelessness Project serves 40 families at a time. Families receive up to 18 months of transitional housing in one of our houses or apartments throughout the greater Seattle area. While families are in this transitional housing they meet regularly with their case managers to set goals and gain access to community resources. The moms in our program work incredibly hard. They study, hold jobs, enroll in training, look after their kids and deal with mental health and medical issues. The vast majority are successful at achieving stability for their families. Eighty-nine percent of those who leave our program move into permanent homes. The Homelessness Project has been serving the Seattle area since 1989, and we have many partners in the community – congregations and non-profit housing developers that provide housing units as well as hundreds of generous donors that support our work. We have grown steadily – from offering four units of housing in 1989 to forty units today - and we are still expanding. What home really means
